When you connect Clearview Social to your LinkedIn account, you'll be prompted to authorize Clearview to perform certain functions on your behalf. If you use LinkedIn to log into Clearview Social, you may occasionally be re-prompted by LinkedIn to verify your authorization as well. These permissions are a part of our access to the LinkedIn API, and are required for various parts of the platform to function.
The authorizations may change over time, as features in our software grow, but for the most part this list remains pretty consistent. Below is a sample of what you'll see:
What Clearview can do
Here's a basic description of each permission, and how it is used in the software:
"Use your basic profile including your name, photo, headline, and public profile URL."
This permission is limited to your profile. You can update your Clearview user image to be your LinkedIn profile image, and we will use what is called your "vanity name" on LinkedIn to construct a link to your profile.
"Use your primary email address associated with your LinkedIn account."
Your login email is used to determine if your LinkedIn account is connected to multiple users on our platform. For users that are in multiple Clearview accounts, they can choose which user they'd like to login as.
"Create, modify, and delete posts, comments, and reactions on your behalf."
This permission allows us to post shares, both links and original content, to LinkedIn. We do not currently do any modification or removal of posts, comments, or reactions on LinkedIn.
"Retrieve your organization's posts, comments, reactions, and other engagement data."
This permission allows us to retrieve posts, comments, and reactions on your Company Pages. It is not currently used by Clearview directly, but is included as a permission alongside of the ability to post shares to Company Pages.
"Create, modify, and delete posts, comments, and reactions on your organization's behalf."
This allows us to post shares, both links and original content, to LinkedIn for your Company Pages. We do not currently do any modification or removal of posts, comments, or reactions on LinkedIn. Note: Only admins with the appropriate permissions both within LinkedIn and on our platform will be able to post company shares to LinkedIn.
"Manage your organizations' pages and retrieve reporting data."
This permission allows us to list available Company Pages for posting through Clearview Social. This is a part of our Company Posting feature, accessible by Clearview admins only. Note: Only admins with the appropriate permissions both within LinkedIn and on our platform will be able to see and connect LinkedIn Company Pages.
What Clearview cannot do
When you grant Clearview Social access to post on your behalf, the permissions listed above are the only things our API can access. We are unable to do the following:
Search for other LinkedIn users, or retrieve their profile data
Post to any other user account, or retrieve any other user's post activity
Tag other users on LinkedIn
Directly message other users
Many of these restrictions are due to privacy restrictions, and are not available to third-party APIs such as Clearview Social.
